Episode 24 of Uyajola 99 is undoubtedly one of our top five most hilarious episodes in the history of this reality show. The episode was filled with so many comedic moments, we couldn’t stop but wonder if we were watching a reality series or a sitcom.
Suspicious phone calls
Whether you’re famous or not, every dog has his day on Uyajola 99. And this day came crashing down on Kwanele.
Unathi from eMthatha has become very suspicious of her boyfriend’s behaviour. Her boyfriend, Kwanele, is an up-and-coming rapper who she’s been dating for years. And although she acknowledges that musicians work late nights and early mornings, there is just something about Kwanele’s schedule that does not make sense to her.
She mentions that Kwanele isn’t sleeping at home anymore even when he has to return home in the early mornings. But what bothers her the most is Kwanele’s behaviour when answering calls. Not only does he avoid calls, but he also cuts them very short, especially when Unathi is present.
Busted at the mall
There is nothing as embarrassing as getting busted at the mall while strolling hand-in-hand with your side chick.
Before Kwanele could even make a dash for it, he finds himself surrounded by cameras, a crowd and an angry girlfriend who is demanding answers.
Grabbing him by his clothes, Unathi begins interrogating Kwanele. And as always, the poor side chick is perplexed at all of the drama that is unfolding in front of her.
A night of love and hip-hop
To get away from the chaos caused by the crowd, Unathi, the side chick and Kwanele are whisked away in the show’s infamous mini-bus.
In the vehicle, Kwanele is bombarded with so many questions from Jub Jub and Unathi and it is at that moment Kwanele realises that he’lll have to confess. But nope, the rapper sticks to his guns and denies being in a relationship with the side chick. The audacity!
Kwanele says he and the girl were just recording music and that’s all there is between them.
When Jub Jub asks if this is true, the side chick confirms but adds information that Kwanele has conveniently forgotten to mention.
âYes, we sing together. We make love songs. My baby raps for me,” says the young lady.
But it is Unathi’s response that sends us to the mortuary dying of laughter as seen in the below images.
It’s at this exact moment that Kwanele probably wished that a gaping hole would magically appear and swallow him up.
The truth comes out
When the side chick realises that she is being denied in front of the entire nation, she throws Kwanele under the bus with no remorse. Homegirl mentions that Kwanele booked a place for the two of them to stay together for a few days. Kwanele denies this as well.
âYou want me to fight with my partner. I donât know what youâre talking about,â says Kwanele.
Jub Jub pleads for Kwanele to come clean. Jub Jub then asks for the rapper to show the song they have been recording. Instead, Kwanele drops a freestyle telling Jub Jub to back off.
The episode ends with the side chick realising that she was played all along and that Kwanele is not leaving Unathi anytime soon.
