Lindani’s death has really made Tumi question some of her recent life choices. After Zodwa’s stunt at Lindani’s funeral, Tumi and her family were not given the opportunity to properly say their final goodbyes to him. This forced her to reflect on the role she played in all the chaos she’s found herself in.
Tumi breaks up with Mabutho
Not only did Tumi accept the Dlomo family’s decision to keep her at a distance, she always realised that it’s perhaps not the right time for her and Mabutho to be together. He paid her a visit and demanded answers about their relationship. She told him: “I can’t even look you in the eye, just as I haven’t been able to look at myself in the mirror every single day. You got to bury my husband while I was denied that right.”
She brought up the fact that Lindani’s death was caused by the two of them. “Everyone reminds me that I divorced him before he died. They say I didn’t care about him and that’s not true.”
Because of everything that’s happening in her life right now, Tumi just can’t keep seeing Mabutho. “It’s over, she told him. “There’s no more you and me. Just leave me alone.”
The following day, Tumi was less harsh and told Mabutho that although she still wants to be with him, the timing is off. “We need time to heal. We need some time apart,” she said.
Lindiwe’s birthday surprise
While her relationship with Mabutho has been damaged, Tumi and Lindiwe have become very close.
She came clean about her break-up with Mabutho and told her mother: “You were right, I need time to myself. But I won’t lie, I miss him.” Who would have thought that Tumi would take her mother’s advice about relationships?
That’s not the only thing the mother and daughter bonded over. For the first time, they were excited about spending Lindiwe’s birthday together.
Tumi and the rest of the family planned a birthday surprise for Lindiwe, and it was meant to be a day she would never forget. Indeed, it turned out to be one for the books! Lindiwe walked into the mansion and her family members had huge smiles on their faces as they screamed “surprise!”.
However, they were the ones who were in for a surprise as Lindiwe was followed by men who were armed with huge guns.
That’s definitely not the birthday celebration we had in mind. We hope no lives will be lost here. Watch The River on Showmax or on the DStv app express from 1Magic.
