South African stars owning it in 2019

Here are the heavy hitters to keep your eye on in the next few months – they’re making their mark on some of your favourite local TV series.

By Zibuyile Dladla

While we love seeing new talent on the rise, there’s no doubt that these heavy hitters continue to prove they are the best in the game. Here’s a look at the South African stars we think will be owning it in the next few months.

1 . Moshe Ndiki

‪PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT IVE JOUNED THE @METROFMSA FAMILY , hello #TheDrive .‬ ‪(I’m literally crying like I haven’t known😭🤣) ‬ ‪Thank you God , Thank you mom and thank you to all of you who’ve supported everything I do. ‬ ‪On to greater highs friends zam ♥️‬

The past two years have been nothing short of amazing for presenter and actor Moshe Ndiki. It all started when Moshe became the new presenter of Uyang’thanda Na back in 2017. Since then, the man seems to be aiming for the title of the most hardworking man in show business. (By the way, catch up or rewatch Seasons 1-2 of Uyang’thanda Na on Showmax. )

Next up, our man was noticed by TV’s royal family – the Fergusons – who roped him in to play the very flamboyant Prince on Mzansi Magic’s The Queen – and he is killing that role. (Stream new episodes of The Queen every day on Showmax to see him playing Prince.)

And just when we thought the Moshe magic had taken a break, he popped up in a new presenting gig for Moja Love’s Rea Tsotella and was also one of the panellists on the Roast of AKA.

2 . Talitha Ndima

Talitha is finally beginning to receive the attention she deserves! She’s appeared in a number of local drama series, most notably Igazi and The Queen – both of which you can binge-watch on Showmax. I’m confident her role as a high-powered advocate on The Queen is going to open up even more opportunities for her in the future.

And if you miss her in local dramas, you’re sure to see her starring in ads. Her commercial cameos are always comforting for me because I still get to see her on screen.

3 . Shannon Esra

Never underestimate the power & the backlash of an oversight. Sadly, we live in a time divided by so much prejudice, intolerance & impatience. I see so much #beauty all around & yet so much struggle. I #dream of #understanding , of #acceptance , of #love ; but most of all, I dream of #peace . 💓💓💓

Shannon will probably go down as one of the most glorified yet disliked legal figures on television. For many South Africans, she is best known as advocate Sandra Stein, who represents two powerful families on our local screens: The Khozas on The Queen and the Dikanas on The River.

You can’t help but root for and dislike her at the same time. She does her job so well you end up forgetting that she is merely performing and isn’t the cold-hearted lawyer everyone believes her to be.

Like Moshe and Talitha, many might think that Shannon is new to the industry but she’s been around for quite some time, and it is only now that her stars are finally in alignment. We’ve seen Shannon perform in award-winning local shows like Yizo Yizo, Isidingo and Hard Copy.

We had so much fun in court! @talitha_ndima doing such great work on screen 🙏🙏 #sandrastein #thequeenmzansi @ferguson_films #lovemyjob #grateful

Considering the many SAFTA-winning local drama series she’s been involved in, I hope that one day she’ll have the pleasure of being presented with her own Golden Horn.

So keep your attention fixed on these three talented entertainers – they may not be the main characters of your favourite local shows, but they definitely make their mark in their roles as supporting cast members.
