At this point, you would think that the husbands and wives on Mnakwethu, streaming on DStv Now and Showmax, would’ve reached an amicable understanding. But, more than ever, the animosity towards one another has intensified.
Pregnancy and separation
In episode 14 of the reunion, Thandeka revealed that she no longer wants to be married to Siphiwe because of the shame he has brought to her. The other reason Thandeka is leaving her marriage is that Zandi confirmed that she is now three months pregnant with Siphiwe’s child.
However, considering that Thandeka is a spiritual healer, she still needs Siphiwe to hold a cleansing ceremony for her before she can completely distance herself from the situation.
Samantha’s dislike of the first wife’s authority
Samantha, who appeared on the first episode of Mnakwethu, when she was almost physically assaulted by the first wife, has been quite vocal about the unfair treatment given towards the second wives on the show.
Samantha expressed how she dislikes the authority or assumed power that the first wives have over the second wives. She said this after it was alleged that MaMchunu had threatened to give Samantha a beating.
“I feel like the first wives are being given powers as if we’re supposed to worship and agree to everything they say. And it’s not like that, I’m a human being as well. So the lashing she’s talking about, she must hand down to her kids. I’m not in a polygamous marriage to get a lashing.” – Samantha
Who’s leaving, who’s staying?
It also seems that Dulas, Maphumulo and MaMhlongo still don’t see eye to eye. This is not surprising, considering how disrespectful MaMhlongo was towards the first wife during the airing of their episode.
Nothing has changed: the two wives still dislike each other and Dulas still comes across as an untrustworthy husband. And believe it or not, the three are still arguing about whether the first wife should or shouldn’t stay in Johannesburg.
