Love Lives Here (2018)

Make no mistake: local romcom Love Lives Here is as cheesy as they come – and that’s what makes it fun. South Africans love laughing, so why not stereotype every rom-com sad-sap lonely heart out there in one flick?

Career woman Zinhle knows that she wants to get married, but she doesn’t need all the messiness of dating – especially when she discovers that her boyfriend has cheated on her. She’s also not just going to say “I do” to the first nice guy with a ring. That’s where her troubles begin – because that Mr Right isn’t just waiting for Zinhle to run into him while she’s jogging at the beachfront.

Okay, so it’s a little formulaic and predictable – you can guess from the word go how it’ll play out. But the fun cast (with loads of soap stars) and script make it a cutesy weekend stream with your boo.

“It shows how young people, mindful of their traditions, try to make sense of the great mystery of falling in love in the context of modern society. Those who are cynical about love will be able to enjoy the ride,” says director Norman Maake, with iol.co.za calling it “a film that explores the lighter side of love, life and everything in between.”
