On Tuesday this week, Isono episode 10 aired on BET but it felt like episode 100 – this is how quickly we’ve become addicted to the new telenovela. The star-studded drama has already taken us on a rollercoaster of emotions, and last week was no different as our heroes and heroines flirted with danger all for the love of money, power and, well, love.
What is Mary plotting?
This week, things kicked off on a fiery note, literally, as the sinister Mary lit an infant’s toy on a stove – this after the baby was handed in to her orphanage, House of Grace, by a clearly struggling teenage mother. Mary’s words might have assured the young mum that her baby would be in good hands, but her facial expressions said otherwise as viewers were left questioning just what she had planned.
With the help of Simon, she has the orphans at the House of Grace working to the bone, which gives her the perfect opportunity to execute some of her other plans – including retrieving her missing R50 000, which found its way into club owner Gazati’s hands. Her newest orphan, Zakwe, is struggling to fit in and Mary seems to have little time for the “street kid” and his thieving ways, but he may prove to be more helpful than she thinks. More on that in a moment.
When saints sin
In the meantime, her focus is elsewhere. With Jumima’s help (bless her soul!), Mary begins to plant the wrong kinds of seeds in the wrong places. First, after obtaining some incriminating evidence, she pays a visit to Pastor Duma’s wife, Angelina, and tries to drive a wedge in their marriage by implying that the Pastor might be leading a double life. When Angelina expresses her doubts, Mary reveals a video of the man of God doing some rather ungodly things in a gentleman’s club.
When Angelina confronts her husband about this, not only does he not take kindly to the line of questioning – but he reveals that his ministry led him to the dingy club, where skimpily clad women can be seen dancing for him. Let’s just say Angelina might have accepted it, but we don’t think she bought it.
Mncedisi offers his help
While Mary continues to plot how she will get her R50 000 back, her new flame Mncedisi hints that half a million Rand could be heading her way if she plays her cards right – just what the House of Grace would need. Of course, there are always strings attached.
Mncedisi, living up to his name, doesn’t want a cent in return – he just wants to help. And perhaps be paid in other ways.
Zakwe’s redemption
Remember Zakwe? The “street kid” who found a not-so-warm-and-welcoming home at House of Grace? Simon hasn’t taken too kindly to his “resourceful” methods of obtaining goods – even if his gifts made the children around him happy.
However, after being recruited by Gabriel to pull off a mission at Gazati’s club, Casanova, he spots the perfect opportunity to win favour at the orphanage. He bravely (or stupidly…) breaks into Gazati’s office to steal back Mary’s R50 000.
Mary is impressed and realises the young man’s street smarts could be of use after all. Although Zakwe doesn’t know it yet, he might have bitten off a bit more than he can chew as Gazati has now put a price on his head.
