Okay, we can finally breathe now.
If you’ve been watching BET’s telenovela Isono with us, you will likely have been holding your breath ever since Thursday night when we found out that there’s a new kingpin, or should we say “queenpin” running the streets.
Abednego introduced the entire crew to their new boss, Vorster, and let’s just say that anybody who had any objections was dealt with swiftly and clinically… but let’s backtrack to how we got here.
Gazati has finally been taken out
It was never going to be easy to remove Gazati from the streets of Johannesburg. The Casanova club owner had a stranglehold on the drug scene and anybody who dared step onto his turf was efficiently disposed of. Only a brave or stupid person would take him on – and we all know that Mother Mary is not stupid!
From the get-go, she told her sons Abednego and Gabriel that her plan would only work if they listened to her instructions and followed them with strict discipline. In the past few weeks we have seen a plan building up as the trio resourced ammunition, recruited a crew and laid out their blueprints.
During the past four episodes, we watched the plan unfold and we can’t pretend we weren’t nervous for them. However, as each piece began to unfold, we realised what Mary’s plan was all along – especially when the gents had the opportunity to steal a truck filled with unmarked bills and walk away with the biggest payday of their lives.
But Mother Mary had a different idea. She instructed the boys to leave the truck on Gazati’s property and went on to alert the authorities. We thought taking Gazati out would mean guns, firepower and a dramatic showdown. Mary had an even smarter plan – to take him out using the law.
Meet Vorster, your new boss!
Now that Gazati was out of the picture, the door was opened for a new sheriff to come into town (well, that’s if we ignore the fact that nobody is on the right side of the law here).
Abednego paid a visit to his new crew members and asked them to sit patiently as he laid down the new law. From the moment he revealed that they would all be reporting to a new boss, there was widespread dismay. Who was this unknown person and how could they possibly tell the crew what to do before even introducing themselves? All we knew was that the new boss was named “Vorster”.
Follow orders and fall in line – or else…
It didn’t take long for the truth to come out. Mary herself wasted no time in visiting her new crew members as she introduced herself to the members as the mysterious Vorster. Not only were they all surprised that it was a woman who would be taking over – but one of the most charitable women Joburg has ever seen. What could someone who runs an orphanage called The House of Grace know about running a murderous criminal ring?
Well, as it turns out, quite a bit.
Once an insurgent appeared in her ranks, questioning what a “holy mother” could teach them, Mary pulled out her gun and fired a near-fatal shot, leaving her son to mop up the mess.
This was a very firmly worded message to the others: fall in line, or else…
With Mary in charge, the family fortunes look set to only multiply. But be warned, when you take the lead, it only means those behind you can place a target on your back!
