Bulelwa Mokoena went to the show to seek closure and confirm whether she had a spiritual calling or not. However, when she met with the spiritual medium, she learned that her problems were much bigger than she had anticipated.
It turns out that her ancestors have turned her life upside down because certain traditional things weren’t done properly in her past.
Making all the wrong moves
Bulelwa was immediately interrogated about her separation from her husband and other aspects of her relationship with him. Thembi brought up the fact that when Bulelwa’s lobola money was paid, it was given to her mother, instead of her father’s family. This, according to Thembi, was a wrong move.
In her defense, Bulelwa explained that her parents separated when she was very young and that she and her father had only recently reconnected. For this reason, she opted to use her mother’s surname, which she’d been using from a very young age. This, as Thembi explained, was also not the right thing to do.
The situation is rather complicated. Bulelwa’s mother, Gladys, left her husband when her children were young and decided it would be best for her and her children to use her maiden surname. She pointed out the fact that she raised her children alone, without their father’s assistance.
How to appease the ancestors
Although Gladys performed a ritual to ask for permission from her ex-husband’s family, Thembi told her that the ancestors didn’t approve of this. Bulelwa’s late paternal grandparents are also not happy about the fact that their family was not invited to her wedding.
The ancestors are now fighting and making Bulelwa’s life difficult. Her marriage is also suffering in the process. Thembi told the mother and daughter that the family feels cheated.
“Your daughter is getting divorced because the lobola process was not handled properly,” Thembi told Gladys. She warned Bulelwa: “Your reasons for wanting a divorce are not solid. It’s worldly things.” She added that the lobola money needs to go to the rightful family.
Bulelwa was advised to fix the situation by appeasing her father’s ancestors and getting her real surname. Thembi also encouraged her not to leave her marriage as her marital problems could be fixed by the ancestors.
