The latest episode had us in stitches from the beginning until the end. And once again, the show succeeded in providing us with some great comedic relief during this extended lockdown period.
A mother of two looking for love
This week’s bachelorette is 26-year-old Tinah Mashiloane from Limpopo who currently resides in the south of Johannesburg. Tinah is looking for Mr Right. She decided to appear on the dating show because she needed to try a different method of finding a boyfriend.
Tinah’s dream guy is tall, extremely attractive and well-built – she can’t do skinny men. The bachelorette also elaborated on the fact that the man she dates needs to come to terms with the fact that she’s a mother of two.
Women should also pay for lobola?
The friends were uneasy about how Tinah wants a man who takes after her dad’s characteristics and how she is not for a vat ‘n sit relationship. The bachelorette made it clear that the only time she would move in with a partner is if he pays lobola. After that statement, the date went on a downward spiral as Asanda’s friends and Tinah engaged in a debate about the double-standards of lobola.
“Why can’t your family pay my family for raising me well?”, asked Sifiso.
The question sparked an ongoing debate on social media as well. Viewers believe that it is the cultural norm for the man to pay lobola and not the other way around. One viewer made an interesting analogy by stating that if a man can do all that is generally required by a woman then maybe, just maybe society will consider paying lobola for a man as well.
While another viewer cautioned people from viewing lobola as a transaction.
The friends were also shocked when Tinah made it clear that she would not babysit her husband’s family as that does not align with her beliefs about marriage.
Don’t oversell your friends
We became suspicious from the minute King’s friends began comparing him to a Cassper Nyovest/Usher look alike. But what we saw is a man who favours Vusi Nova.
However, besides the overselling part, the date with King’s friends went well, from dinner to the conversation – everything was top notch. Jerry, Oko and France did a good job at describing the type of man King is. They were so good that we somehow knew that Tinah would choose King. And she sure did, but what she was about to discover is that King is nothing like what his friends had described him to be.
Not the king she expected
King came up short and could not live up to the standards to which his friends held him. He struggled to hold a conversation and this annoyed Tinah tremendously. She began to be extremely rude and from there on the date turned into a disaster.
