They say that a man who doesn’t know what he’s looking for is a weapon of mass destruction. This particular quote came to mind when watching Sunday night’s episode of #DateMyFamily where we met a young musician by the name of Phello. From the get-go, Phello admitted that he didn’t know what he wanted in life – so he was looking for somebody who could help him decide.
We knew that this episode was going to have an interesting outcome and it did not fail to deliver! We met the three families of the three women who Phello would be visiting, namely, Nthabiseng, Tshego and Pebetso.
Phello’s odd requests
You must know that if the biggest talking topic after an episode of #DateMyFamily is the bachelor, then something must be up. Phello had the country talking but for all the wrong reasons as we got to know him more and more during Sunday’s hour-long episode. Weirdly, the more we knew of him, the less we understood!
For starters – the musician was on a dating show (to find love!) and yet he appeared to be totally uninterested in any of the girls’ families he was getting to know. It almost felt as if someone had asked HIM to find himself love.
Secondly – Phello opened up about having two kids, no problem. In the same breath, however, he admitted that he did not want to date anybody who had kids! Please make it make sense?
baTswana Twitter speaks out!
After an awkward episode of watching Phello navigate each family before getting to an even more awkward date (don’t worry, we’ll get there!) – the gentlemen on baTswana Twitter felt compelled to clear the air and let it be known that Phello did not represent them.
Nthabiseng’s friends unimpressed
It takes a lot to leave a family completely unimpressed but somehow the 36-year-old managed it. It began with a talk about tattoos that eventually extended to a discussion about Phello’s career (he’s a struggling musician by the sounds of it) and then it extended to his views on societal ills like GBV. His replies left a lot to be desired…
It’s no surprise that Phello didn’t choose Nthabiseng, but Nthabiseng was more than happy to not be chosen.
No second date for these two!
In the end, Phello might not have had many takers on the Twitter streets but he was able to choose Tshego as the woman he would be taking out on a date. However, the excitement when the car arrived was probably the highlight of their encounters.
Sadly, everything went downhill from there. Not even 10 seconds after sitting down, Phello was already asking a lot of questions about when the food was arriving and it came across as a bit impatient. His appetite was doing him no favours – when Tshego asked him why he came back for her, his first reason was “I heard that you cook”. NOT how to impress a woman in 2021!
The rest of the date was just uncomfortable for everybody who was watching and it continued to go south as time went on. Absolutely nobody was expecting this to work out and to the relief of many, Phello and Tshego decided that they would not be going on a second date after their encounter.
Good luck to both of them in finding love in the near future!
