This week’s Date My Family was one of the most unique editions yet. We met Darryl, whose name might not seem to suggest anything interesting about him, but don’t be fooled. Since becoming a traditional healer, Darryl now goes by the name of Gogo Nhlanhla and his artist name is Drip Gogo – we’ve got your attention now, right?
Gogo Nhlanhla is not only a traditional healer, he’s also an artist, a fashion designer and a student! He’s young, ambitious and is looking for a girl who can match that ambition. As he described it: he wants beauty and brains!
In his pursuit for love, he met the friends and family of three ladies: Mbali, Mathabo, and another lady named Mbali.
“I’m pescetarian”
The food is one of the biggest features of every episode of Date My Family and this week was no different. Well, it was kind of different in the sense that we’ve never seen a pescetarian on the show (which is a vegetarian who eats fish and seafood). Gogo Nhlanhla confessed up front to being a pescetarian and we noticed from the get-go that things could get awkward.
And awkward they did get! For starters, all of the families prepared red meat for him, from steak to lamb to oxtail – it seemed as if nobody had been given the heads up about his dietary requirements and every family had to deal with the awkwardness of him breaking the news to them.
Things also got a bit heated when he complained to Mathabo’s cousin and childhood friend that the cutlery he was eating with was dirty. Take me away from here!
Is a short temper a red flag?
One of the things that can be a huge red flag when dating someone (or considering dating someone) is a foul temper… Unfortunately, Gogo Nhlanhla admitted to being a bit short-tempered during his visit to Mathabo’s family and when they heard that, they all (including Mathabo herself!) raised the red flag high.
In fact, they even went as far as fearing that he might one day abuse their friend if things ever got heated between the two of them. In his defence, he did claim that he would never put a hand on a woman. Let’s just say they weren’t totally convinced.
An easy choice to make?
If you watched all three dates you will agree that only Mbali Number Two appeared to have a chance when it was time to make the choice. Mbali Number One was extremely charmed by Gogo Nhlanhla, but he wasn’t so fond of her friends. He and Mathabo’s family just didn’t click! However, there was genuine common ground with Mbali Number Two’s family and the fashion designer so it came as no surprise when he arrived to pick her up.
Second date secured!
As far as first dates go, we’ve seen every kind. From the terrible to the terrific and thankfully, this one can be classified as the latter. Mbali and Gogo Nhlanhla hit it off, they had a great date and they looked very cute together. It came as no surprise when they both agreed that they would be happy to go on a second date!
