This week we took to the skies when we met 36-year-old flight attendant Sihayo, who described himself as a “cool person” and lived up to his own hype almost instantly. From the moment we met him, Sihayo’s energy reached out from our screens and filled up our homes, and we were here for it.
Sihayo had been single for some time and he began by opening up about what he was looking for. He was looking for a tall guy with character and ambition but a deal breaker would have been someone stingy.
In his quest for a new romance, he would meet Oratile’s friends, Kat’s family and Benvolio’s longtime friends and business partners. Which of the three gents would be represented best and win Sihayo’s heart? Let’s see how it all unfolded.
The rainbow nation came to slay!
First things first, at a time when there have been protests and calls for leadership to take action against the violence and attacks on queer lives, it was refreshing to watch an episode that reminded us of just why we love the South African LGBTQIA+ community.
Sihayo, Oratile, Kat and Benvolio were all loveable, charming, friendly, memorable, sassy, fabulous and overall enjoyable people who put their best foot forward when talking about themselves. The charm in the episode also made its way to the viewers who showed love to the “Rainbow Nation” or the “Colour Nation” on the timeline at several intervals during the episode. We love the South African queer community and we will celebrate it at every opportunity!
What did Somizi do?
Somizi must have been wondering why he was trending on Sunday night after an off-base comment was made on the episode at his expense. On his visits to the families of the three singles, Sihayo had to answer a lot of questions.
He dealt with everything from his age to his profession, but when one bold family member asked if he had children, the flight attendant hit back with considerable spice when he said “I’m not Somizi”. Ouch!
Yes, Somizi is an openly gay man who is also a proud father. While the situation might raise questions from some quarters (and really, whose business is it?), it shouldn’t be grounds to make entire stereotypes out of gay men who choose to be parents.
There were no wrong choices here!
Before we get to the final decision, it is important to note just how beautiful this episode was. From the singles, to the friends, families and colleagues, it was a truly aesthetically pleasing experience, and we think Sihayo could have found himself in a cute relationship regardless of his choice.
Tweeps on our timelines agreed – some would have loved to shoot their shots with the guests on this week’s episode.
That said, there was something about the chemistry we could sense when Sihayo was interacting with Benvolio’s friends, and it came as no surprise when he chose the third option to be his next potential bae.
BenHayo go on their first date
Benvolio and Sihayo began their dating journey with a lovely dinner, and the whole country was pleased to see them hitting it off from the get-go. The two potential lovers bantered, talked, and exchanged the kinds of glances that made us believe that this date would be heading somewhere.
In the end, they were both keen on a second date and absolutely nobody in the country was willing to deny them!
