The latest episode of Season 8 of Date My Family, streaming on DStv Now, sparked some interesting conversations, along with laughter, drama and a few cute moments at the end.
Meet the bachelorette
This week’s bachelorette is Atlehang from Pretoria, a 27-year-old attorney who is in search of a man who’s independent, mature and an intellectual with similar career and personal goals.
Atlehang comes across as a catch who has it all, beauty and brains, so why is she on Date My Family? Well, according to Atlehang, men do not make advances or approach her for dates.
Come on, guys, do better!
Let’s take a glance at what went down with the three families and Atlehang.
Amani and his foot fetish
The first group Atlehang had dinner with consisted of Amani’s friends Benny, Dylan and Kisimba. Things started off a bit shaky when the friends mentioned that Amani had a thing for cute female toes.
Fortunately, Atlehang attended dinner wearing sandals, which made it easier for the friends to assert whether she is the type of woman Amani would want to date.
But, seriously, imagine having to take off your shoes so that your date can see if they’re satisfied or not with your God-given feet. Dating in 2020 is such a mission.
Amani’s buddies were stunned when she asked about his height. “She came here to seek out love, what does that have to do with height?” asked Kisimba.
Beside the awkward questions and toe fetish moment, Atlehang enjoyed her date with the family. The conversation was flowing, the food looked and tasted amazing – basically, Atlehang was impressed and the viewers shared the exact sentiments as well.
Tough steak, tough crowd, non-existent gravy and zero effort
The second family was a disaster. Atlehang met up with Brian’s family, represented by his friends Thobile and Thato, who revealed that Brian was a dancer after Atlehang inquired about Brian’s nickname, Derrango.
Atlehang was a bit unsettled by this revelation as she’d never pictured herself dating a dancer. Especially not a dancer who got his nickname because he resembled kwaito musician L’Vovo Derrango.
And then she found out Brian also had a child, which didn’t fit in at all with her idea of the ideal man.
That’s not all – the food was disappointing in every way possible. The steak was hard and the guests served pap and cabbage with no gravy.
Kholofelo was just wrong, in every possible way
We kind-of knew that things were not going to end well with the third family simply because Khofelo turned out to be an aspiring rapper who wore open shirts. And to be quite frank, those are not qualities Atlehang associated with her ideal man.
The date started off on an okay note, but things quickly spiralled downwards, with Kholofelo’s friend Lens throwing him under the bus numerous times.
When Atle said she was a lawyer, Lens asked if she helped murderers get out of jail. He continued to say his friend didn’t like women who were emancipated and would rather date women that were submissive.
Excuse us?!
The last nail in the coffin was when they revealed that Kholo worked in retail. This really threw Atlehang off as he again did not tick the right boxes when it came to her ideal man.
In the end, Atlehang went on a date with Amani. Amani seemed very excited that he was chosen and showed some level of commitment to ensuring he made this work with Atlehang.
