This week took us to the city of Rustenberg in the North West, where we met Tshephiso, a sweet, loveable young man who’s looking for – let’s just come out and say it – a curvaceous lady! Within seconds of his introduction, he was telling us how he doesn’t want a slender girl and his energy set the tone for an interesting episode.
He met the families of his three potential matches, Latoya, Boitshoko and Kagiso, for three separate lunch dates as he tried to pick his potential suitor. The Rusty Dusty Edition of Date My Family brought us some unexpected surprises, including a few celebrity moments that had us wondering for a second if we had tuned into the correct show!
A Babes Wodumo sighting?
Tshephiso found himself having to choose between three beautiful women, but for a moment it looked like we had seen one of them before! After two interesting dates, when Kagiso introduced herself to the nation, we honestly thought we were looking at Durban-born singer, Babes Wodumo – such was the resemblance. Not only did their facial features look similar, but Kagiso was wearing one of Babes’ trademark colourful wigs as well!
Kagiso might be a few years younger than Babes Wodumo, but you can hardly tell the difference between the two women. The fact that her personality and fashion sense are so similar to the Gqom queen made the comparison even stronger.
Judging by the reaction on social media, we’re not the only ones who felt this way either…
That Jerry Maake impression
Just when we thought all the celebrity references were done, Tshepiso gave us even more entertainment when he decided to embody the fictional character, Jerry Maake (who used to be played by Shona Ferguson on The Queen). Fans had been eagerly awaiting the impression after seeing a snippet on this episode’s promo where Tshepi mused, “For her, I can become Jerry Maake!”.
And so he did. Almost literally! Down to the voice, the mannerisms and everything except the chiseled torso, Tshepiso really took us to Tembisa for a moment and we could have sworn Jerry was the one speaking instead of the young bachelor. If looking for love doesn’t work out, a career in acting might be on the cards!
A poetic first date
After being swept away by all three of his dates, Tshepiso eventually decided to try things out with Latoya, and when they met, he was not disappointed. Tshepiso had wanted curves from the beginning and his new bae delivered!
The interaction between the two new lovebirds looked to be qute friendly and enjoyable, although we’re not too sure how we felt about Tshepiso busting out a random poem on their first date. Maybe that’s how things should be done these days, right?
In the end, most people on social media agreed that these two were a good fit for one another and we are definitely not going to deny them that. The outing itself went well enough for them both to consider a second date!
Do you also agree that Tshpeiso made the right choice?
