Date My Family keeps us and our families glued to our screens every Sunday. There’s always a buzz on Sunday Twitter with commentary from viewers and even from our favourite well-known personalities. If you’ve ever wondered how SA celebs react to Date My Family, you have to watch this week’s at-home edition.
It had all the drama of a regular episode of Date My Family, but came with a new spin: we got to see comedians watching the show with their families and reacting to every moment. We’re talking about some of the funniest people in Mzansi – Lebogang Tlokana, aka The Funny Chef, Sihle Vezi, and Tumi “stopnonsons” Matila.
This week’s bachelor wants brains more than beauty
Arinze is a 28-year-old man who is looking for a steady relationship. Arinze enjoys clubbing and going to the gym.
He likes women who are curvaceous but he is looking for someone with brains and not just good looks.
The first family loves him a bit too much
Sazikazi’s family has a lot going on. Sazi’s aunt thinks Arinze looks very cute and welcomes him with open arms. Sazi’s mom also seems to like him a lot.
Watching from their home, Sihle Vezi’s family thought that Sazi’s family had had a few too many drinks, and that aunt Onica resembled the late Brenda Fassie.
Funny Chef’s family noticed how the aunt was thirsting over the guy.
“There’s drought in this family, everyone is thirsty,” said Funny Chef’s sister.
While Tumi simply said, “I have a problem with this auntie. She is lecherous.”
Going to the gym “not a must” for this family
The first topic Arinze jumped into was the subject of a submissive woman. Siza’s mom clarified that her daughter can be submissive to a man, but he must not be controlling.
Arinze then added that he wants a woman who regularly goes to the gym, but the family did not agree with that statement. They said that going to the gym is not a must.
What did you call my momma?
The dinner was going well until Siza referred to the mom as a Slay Queen. To some people, the term “Slay Queen” is negative, whereas others think it refers to female empowerment.
Well, it was clear that Siza’s family don’t think highly of the term.
The bachelor rephrased his words and explained that he means the mom is a beauty queen. Yeah, sure, buddy.
Just when we thought things couldn’t get worse, Arinze asked the unthinkable. Yep, the bachelor asked whether Sazi would be the type of woman who would be able to satisfy him. Err… what are you getting at, dude?
Dineo’s friend wants Arinze for herself
Our next bachelorette is Dineo.
Dineo is represented by her friends, who decide to wear very short skirts for their date with the bachelor. Their choice of attire gets Arinze’s attention immediately.
One of the friends seems to be particularly attracted to Arinze.
“Tall, dark and handsome. That’s every girl’s dream,” said the friend.
The Funny Chef notices one girl winking at the bachelor. Her sisters don’t believe her. Funny Chef had to rewind the moment for them to believe what she saw.
“She’s sitting with her legs apart and wearing a short skirt!”, Chef exclaimed.
Arinze lost focus as he looked at the girls and thought this was what he wanted, without knowing what Dineo looked like. Things got out of control when he started asking about whether Dineo would stop her if he wanted to make love to her…
A not-so-perfect match
Mudzunga’s family welcomed our bachelor openly and warmly. When they told him that his date is Venda he said that’s the type he likes, and Mudzunga would happily date a Nigerian man.
But then Arinze started flirting with Mudzunga’s sister, and that didn’t sit well with the bachelorette.
He ended up choosing Mudzunga, but for the wrong reasons – he was hoping to find her as attractive as her sister.
But then he wished he could go back and choose the first family he met instead.
Their date, of course, is horrible. Arinze is not attentive and Mudzunga is already disappointed and annoyed with him.
Arinze has no one to blame but himself. This is what happens when you choose a date according to your shallow expectations.
For shame, Arinze, for shame.
