Yaya has told her family about wanting to find her mother. On the recent episode of Becoming, the 32-year-old held a family meeting, and her father was also present. “I think it’s time I look for my mother,” she said.
She then told her father, Themba, that whatever happened in his relationship with her mother has nothing to do with her. “I just want to meet my mother. I want to have both my parents in my life. That’s all that’s important to me.”
Yaya believes that her mother did the best she could for her at the time. “My mother actually gave birth to me and left me with the family that she thought was going to take care of me. And they did just that, which means she trusted her decisions.” She added that she doesn’t know why her mother left or where she went.
One of Yaya’s relatives revealed that the reality TV star has a younger sister. Yaya was obviously not aware of this and had to take a moment to take it all in. “I feel like my family knows something that I don’t know. My family does not want me to meet my mother, I think,” she said.
She then told her family that if she does end up finding her mother, she’ll bring her home. “Not that she’ll live here, but as you said, I have a younger sister.”
One thing Yaya always gets asked is whether she’s angry at her father for not revealing the truth about her mother’s whereabouts. “And I always say no. I love my dad and I don’t know why they separated. I wasn’t involved in their relationship.”
Although this might be a tough journey for Yaya, at least she has her family’s blessing. “If she’s alive, I hope you find her quickly,” Themba told her. Yaya’s mother left when she was just four months old. Despite not having a memory of her, Yaya shared: “I love her even though I’ve never met her. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for her.”
