Yay believes that it’s important to go through your transition journey with family. On the latest episode of Becoming, Yaya caught up with her friends to chat about going back home, people addressing her using her old name and the possibility of connecting with his birth mother.
On people who still address her as Siyabonga, Yaya said: “I just don’t like using Siyabonga. Anyone that uses Siyabonga, I ignore them. Some people use that name because they’re thinking, ‘I wanna prove that I know you better’. If you don’t know Yaya, then you don’t know me,” she said.
Yaya gets emotional
Thing got emotional when she revealed that she’s planning to add her mother’s name to her ID. She then opened up about wanting to find her birth mother. “The day I found out that my mother was not the one I thought she was, I always had that idea [of] wanting to know who my mother was.” She added that although she’s been curious about her birth mother, she didn’t want to bring her to a life of poverty and suffering.
One of her friends, Qhama, brought up the fact that her mother might not want to be a parent. “Imagine getting there and then your mother doesn’t want you ‘cause really, some people do not want children and that is the reality of things,” Qhama mentioned.
All is forgiven
However, Yaya is not entertaining the idea. “The fact that she left me with my family [is] because she loved me. And I know that wherever she is she does want to meet me. And if I meet her and she doesn’t want to have a relationship with me, that’s fine,” she said, adding that that she will never deprive herself of what she wants because of what people think.
Yaya also admitted that although this has been an emotional process, she’s happy that she’s forgiven everything. “I think it makes me happy that I’m at peace to say I just want to meet her. It doesn’t matter what she thinks.” The reality TV star believes that her birth mother loves her and wishes her well.
