Imagine getting married to someone who hates you. Nqobile obviously didn’t know her husband’s true colours when she decided to commit to him for the rest of her life. Now, years later, she’s been dealing with an abusive, cheating and manipulative husband and it looks like she still has no idea what she’s up against.
From the first episode of the Mzansi Magic drama series, Simo has given viewers many reasons to hate him. Continue reading to see why Simo is the most hated character on TV right now.
1. He’s unappreciative
Simo still blames Nqobile for their late son’s drowning. The incident happened a year ago and he always finds a way of reminding her that she’s responsible for what happened. For this reason, he hasn’t been the kindest or most loving husband in the world. Basically, he doesn’t treat her well.
On their anniversary, Nqobile made an effort and got him a watch as a gift. While she didn’t mind that he didn’t get her anything, Simo didn’t even appreciate the gift. He was so cold towards her and showed that he checked out of the marriage a long time ago.
2. It’s all about his ego
Some men love it when their women shine. But not Simo! In fact, he’s shown that he’ll stop at nothing to get his way. On the same day as his anniversary, he had to rush to work because he had an important presentation. While he was presenting, Nqobile walked in because she had a brilliant idea to share with him and the rest of the company.
However, her husband got upset and they went to speak outside. He told her to go back home. Simo had the nerve to tell Nqobile that she doesn’t respect their late son. “You are in mourning but you’re all over the office. You don’t respect me. You don’t respect my child.”
Could this have been a case of Simo feeling insecure? That’s the impression we got after watching that scene. Nqobile, who had been off from work since losing her son, was given the opportunity to share her idea. She managed to impress investors and Simo’s father. They then decide to reinstate her as the CEO of the company.

Simo didn’t take this well and he threw a tantrum in his father’s office. He didn’t get the comfort he was seeking as his father told him: “If it wasn’t for Nqobile, our investors would have pulled out.” His request for a second chance was denied.
3. He’s a cheater
Simo has been having an affair for over a year. Ntombi happens to be Nqobile’s friend but seems to be enjoying being her husband’s side chick. What’s even worse is that Ntombi has asked Simo to leave his wife for her as she’s tired of playing second best. She already sees herself being the lady of the house and running the family business with Simo.
Unfortunately, that plan isn’t going well because after Simo’s father passed away, he left Nqobile at the helm. This obviously isn’t the way Ntombi thought things would go.
4. He takes his anger out on Nqobile
When he doesn’t get his way, Simo gets violent. There are clearly many reasons why Simo isn’t happy with his life. Instead of dealing with his issues – including not being chosen to run the family business – he focuses all his anger on the wrong person. One time, he beat Nqobile up so badly that she couldn’t walk properly the following day. He also kept reminding her that she killed their child.
5. Simo wants to destroy his wife
While he made Nqobile believe that he’s a changed man and will support her as the CEO of the company, he’s been secretly working with others to sabotage her. After taking over as the boss, Nqobile retrenched about 70% of the staff, and the majority were men. This was a way of saving the company and a strategy to empower women.

As expected, the men who lost their jobs didn’t take this well and took action. Simo saw this an opportunity to use their anger for his own benefit. He convinced them to cause havoc by making sure that the cabs are destroyed. This would scare the women cab drivers and they’d stop working. The result? The business would feel the heat.
His plan might have worked, but we have a feeling that things will backfire. Watch Nqobile on Mzansi Magic (Channel 161) and express to Showmax.
